Description

Industrial Context and Problem Statement
The electrification of heavy vehicle powertrains introduces new challenges related to the interactions
between the electric machine, its power electronics, and the mechanical transmission. Many anufacturers facing powertrain electrification observe torque oscillations generated by electric motors and
induced by gear meshing. These two phenomena can excite the same vibration modes in the transmission.
These oscillations, often nonlinear in nature, can generate resonances in the transmission. Current
control strategies, effective below 20Hz, can amplify certain phenomena beyond this frequency. Moreover, the lack of coupled modeling of the entire control + electric machine + transmission system, as
well as open-loop operation with respect to the transmission, limit control performance. Furthermore, the development of new transmission architectures generates new failure modes whose early detection is essential for predictive maintenance.

Skills required

This multidisciplinary subject lies at the interface between control systems, electrical engineering, and mechanics. The ideal candidate has a multidisciplinary profile, with skills in electrical engineering and/or mechanics and/or control systems. A particular interest in multiphysics modeling is expected. As the thesis involves a significant experimental component, a strong interest in practical implementation will be particularly appreciated.
